John walked through his front door to see both his parents sitting on the couch as they both glance up at him. He just got home from school and looked at them with a puzzled look. "Come here, John" said his mother, "We want to talk to you." They had a concerned look on their faces and John wondered what the issue was. He had plans in an hour to meet up with Mark so they could go to the creek to fish.

His father hands him a letter. John looks at the letter with a shocked look on his face. "I thought I wasn't going to get this for another month" said John. "It must have come early" said his father. "Open it so we can find out."

John carefully tore open the envelope, his fingers trembling slightly. He unfolded the letter and read aloud, "Congratulations, John. You've been accepted into the summer science program at the university." His voice faltered as he glanced up at his parents. "I thought I wasn’t supposed to get this until next month," he murmured, still trying to process the news. His mother smiled proudly, but his father’s face was tense."We’re proud of you, son," his father said, "but we also know you were looking forward to working in the lab next week. This could change everything." John’s stomach dropped. He had been counting on the part-time position at the local laboratory to gain real-world experience and earn some money over the summer. The program was an incredible opportunity, but it meant he would have to turn down the job. He stared at the letter in his hands, the weight of the decision settling in. "I don’t know what to do," he admitted.
